Why to buy organic meat?

If you need products of animal origin (milk, meat, eggs), you can make a significant contribution to your health and the environment by buying organic products from local producers.

Supporting farms which care of environment and choose "ethic" standards of raising of animals, you thereby support enterprises which pollute air and water much less. It's really a choice in favor of healthy food, and contribution to the purity of the environment that surrounds us. To sound more realistic we will give a practical example. Non-organic companies involved in chicken meat production in the Leningrad region quite often dump fetid waste ... into the nearest river. When buying meat from small organic farm, you are supporting businesses that use animal waste as fertilizer for their forage. The circle is closed.

Of course, this is not the only reason to choose organic animal products.

Here are just some of them:

1. Without antibiotics, hormones, GMO feed and other chemicals, no genetically modified animals.

Animals raised on organic standards, do not receive antibiotics as part of feed, do not receive growth hormone (rbGH) and other unnecessary "chemistry." It isn't allowed to feed animals with sterns hving gene-modified components. Now there are breeds of cows with a gene of Scorpio, etc. The organic standards prohibit to have such animals on farms.

As it should be: Animals grow in a healthy and natural environment, eating organic food and often get a wider range of nutrients than animals from "ordinary farms."

Interesting: Studies have shown that animals from organic farms are much healthier than their relatives with usual, inhuman production.

2. Will prevent mad cow disease: animals are not forced to eat the flesh.

Practice of introduction in a diet cattle of products of an animal origin, namely production wastes, for example, a bone flour, led to that the cattle started hurting rage, and also some diseases which affect nervous system and can pass through meat to the person, for example Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. The hypothesis made byRudolf Shtefner more than 200 years ago that the effects of the introduction of the diet of livestock products of animal origin can lead to tragic consequences, came true.

As it should be: Animals receive only 100% an organic forage; they aren't given products of an animal origin.

Eating organic meat you are protected by a certificate, confirming that the cow has received only 100% organic food.

3 . More humane maintenance of animals

At factories animals often are in close cages. For example, according to the method of intensive production, a calf is weaned from a mother immediately after birth. Milk intended for the calves immediately goes to the production. Of course, it is very traumatic both for calves and cows. As it should be: Buy organic or "house" meat. In that case, you will be sure that chicken or a cow were really grazed on a grass, instead of were locked in a close cage.

4. Animals have free walking.

According to organic standards, animals grow up in more humane way, in conditions near to the natural ones. Animals spend more time in the open air. For example, house hens eat more bugs and worms, than their factory colleagues. The attitude towards animals too is more humane.

5 . Manure

Small farms use it, and large factories pollute them environment. In America, large-scale farms annually throw out more than 10 million tons of manure in environment. It is fraught, for example, with danger of infection of E-coli and other intestinal pathogens. On the contrary, small farms use manure as a soil fertilizer.

6. Bio-diversity

Large enterprises rely on just a few breeds of chickens or cows. Other breeds may simply die out if they will not continue to grow on organic farms. For example, industrial chickens are mainly broilers. Broilers give a lot of meat, but these chickens can not survive in the wild. The whole life of the broiler is a disease and suffering, because broiler chicks can not survive without antibiotics; in the first few weeks they can not stand on their feet because of the disproportionately large trunk.  On small farms big variety of hens — both meat, and "egg" breeds, but not only broilers, live. Buying "house" and organic production, you make the contribution to biodiversity maintenance.

7. Less chemicals.

You probably have heard about the dangers of pesticides. Organic farms don't use pesticides and mineral fertilizers. Your choice for organic chemistry is chance for one more farmer to work in a safe and natural environment. In addition, the rejection of pesticides makes the whole environment cleaner.

8 . Reasonable use of resources.

Organic farms use 70% less energy, than the large enterprises, thanks to ecological management and attention to environment. Organic production, certainly, expensive, and often it should be ordered separately. However, when talking about what it is worth buying only organic, we would name meat.  The benefits of eating meat are quite a controversial issue, but the fact that non-organic meat is harmful rather than beneficial, seems to be clear to an increasing number of people joining organic movement and thinking about themselves in the context of society, the environment, the future of our children on this planet.
